About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

On successful completion of the Master of Food Safety and Quality graduates will be well able to manage and lead food safety and quality projects in the food industry. Graduates will be able to identify the risks to food safety and quality and describe the critical parameters in food processing that need to be controlled to ensure food safety and quality. Graduates will have extensive theoretical knowledge, practical skills and discipline specific competencies that will enable them to take up professional roles in the food industry or to continue with further postgraduate research in the area of food science and technology. The Master of Food Safety and Quality can be a terminating qualification for industry-orientated learners who wish to lead and manage food safety and quality programmes or a successful graduate could progress to doctoral study in the area of food technology . We expect the majority of students will be studying while employed in the food industry. However those that are not may use this degree as a way of entering the food industry at a reasonably advanced level. The degree will be applicable to all sectors of the food industry from the manufacture of different commodity and consumer products to regulatory authorities, testing facilities and other companies providing support to the food industry.

Minimum requirements

A Bachelors with Honours degree in food engineering, food science or food technology, or equivalent; or a Bachelors degree in engineering, science, technology, or equivalent and at least 36 months relevant professional experience in the food or biological products industry.
