School students must be year 11, 12 or 13 and must go through the school's careers advisor to ensure best fit for the course.

About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide the aeronautical engineering industry in Aotearoa with secondary school leavers who are interested in embarking into the industry and are equipped with introductory aeronautical engineering knowledge and basic skills around workshop, equipment and tool use and safety.

The focus is on an introduction to Aviation Engineering; what an aviation engineer does in New Zealand, what jobs and future learning pathways there are and how to be safe in an aviation workshop. Knowledge and skills around equipment and tool types, the uses and safety around this equipment will be the secondary focus with skills being assessed though basic metalwork* projects in the workshop.
