About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide a formal credential that introduces ākonga to the creation of the world, Atua Māori, key historic events and pōwhiri, guiding them to gain a foundational understanding of tikanga, tikanga practices, concepts, and mātauranga Māori within the context of Te Ao Māori.

This micro-credential is targeted at people who are already employed or volunteer in a workplace who wish to strengthen their understanding of tikanga Māori, build on their bicultural capability and to get a deeper understanding of what it means to be tangata whenua or tangata tiriti in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

This micro-credential is intended to complement and enhance the ākonga and workplace's tikanga, knowledge and skillsets in accordance with mātauranga Māori. The micro-credential will be able to be completed by ākonga in any industry, therefore it is intended to provide an opportunity for ākonga to learn in any context.

On completion graduates will be able to apply knowledge fundamentals to tikanga practices in their workplace and in the wider community, whānau, hapū and iwi.
