About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The aim of this micro-credential is to provide students/employees with an opportunity to develop the communication skills and person-centred support knowledge, strategies and skills required of dementia support workers in a healthcare environment. Students/employees will understand the effects on caregivers providing dementia support and the safe practices required for working with people with dementia in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The student target market for this micro-credential will be primarily for students, whether domestic or international [onshore], who have:
- work experience with healthcare support, and/or
- related experience.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Academic Entry Requirements: There are no compulsory academic entry requirements howeverit is recommended that learners enrolling for this micro credential hold the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) qualification or are working in healthcare industry. English Language Entry Requirements: Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5, or equivalent. This is subject to NZQA Rule 18, details of which can be found at: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/about-us/our-role/legislation/nzqa-rules/nzqf-relatedrules/the -table/ International (onshore) students require a valid visa and insurance to study on the programme. There are no mandatory prerequisites for entry to this qualification.
