Certificate in Wound Debridement (Level 7) (Micro-credential)

Applicants must currently be one of the following:
- A Registered Doctor with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- A Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Accredited as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, with at least 3 years of experience
- Hold an annual practising certificate issued by the Podiatrists Board of New Zealand

English Language Requirements:
All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to study at this level.
Those applicants whose first language is not English should have an International Language Testing System (IELTS) overall Academic Score of at least 6.0 issued within the last two years with no less than 5.5 in any band or equivalent.
Otago Polytechnic's Policy "English Language Requirements for those for whom English is an Additional Language" also applies.

Other requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Disclose any criminal convictions prior to commencing the programme.
- Consent to a police check prior to commencing the programme.

The above is to ensure that, while in work placement, learners comply with workplace obligations for the protections for vulnerable adults under the Crimes Act 2012. See sections 151, 195, and 195A, Learners must have access to a workplace with the appropriate supervision,
equipment, and patient load. Learners will be required to submit a "Letter of Employer Support" with their application to confirm their workplace can provide these necessities and can support their learning.

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this micro-credential is to enable health care professionals to safely perform a range
of debridement procedures, including conservative sharp debridement when indicated in adult
patients.

By the end of this programme, graduates will be able to accurately evaluate wounds and safely perform a range of wound
debridement modalities, including conservative sharp wound debridement, within their scope of practice, to improve clinical outcomes for adult patients.
