What can I expect out of this qualification?
This programme is suitable for those who wish to develop a career as a professionally qualified and registered social worker. Social work registration is dependent upon obtaining a Level 7 social work qualification which meets the standards of, and is recognised by, the SWRB. The Bachelor of Social Work is a 4-year, 480-credit bachelor level qualification. There are 16 compulsory modules comprising 450 credits and two 15-credit electives. Graduates will be able to enter the social work workforce at a beginning practitioner level. Field placement is a significant element in the programme. In Year 1 students will be introduced to service users in the classroom. In Year 2 they will undertake 40 hours of voluntary work/observation in a social service agency. In each of years 3 and 4 they will undertake a 60-day supervised placement.

Academic Requirements: University Entrance: NCEA Level 3 (60 credits Level 3 and 20 credits Level 2 or higher) which must include 14 credits Level 3 in each of three approved subjects as well as Literacy - 10 credits Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading, 5 credits in writing, and - Numeracy 10 credits Level 1 or above (specified achievement standards, or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627) OR Qualification or examination recognised as equivalent to achievement of NCEA Level 3 (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination) OR Relevant qualification at Level 4 on the NZQF; or equivalent Alternative Requirements: Applicants unable to evidence that they meet Academic entry requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry by the Curriculum Manager (or delegate) English Language Requirements: Students with primary language not English, Maori, or NZ sign language: IELTS academic score of 6.5 academic no band score lower than 6.5, OR TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 85 or higher with writing score of 22. These tests must have been completed in one sitting within the last 2years. Other Requirements - Candidates must meet the SWRB Fit and Proper criteria. - Candidates are required to indicate whether they have been convicted of, or are being prosecuted for, a criminal offence. Prior to commencing the programme all successful candidates will be required to complete a police vetting form. - Safety checks to comply with the provisions of the Vulnerable Children s Act, 2014 and Child Protection Policies for all specified organisations providing a regulated service . These will include but are not limited to Formal Interview, Referee Checks, Police Vet Check, Risk Assessment - Declaration of pending or new convictions arising during any stage throughout entire enrolment period. - Attending a selection interview
