Entry requirements
To be admitted to the Master of Contemporary Education, all applicants must have:
A recognised bachelor degree in the same or similar discipline, with merit achievement, deemed to be an average grade of B- or higher in all Level 7 courses;
Or
A professional qualification in a relevant discipline, recognised as being equivalent to merit achievement in a bachelor degree or equivalent;
Applicants may be eligible for admission if they meet the special admission requirements outlined below.
a. attained the age of 20 years on or before the first day of the semester in which study for the programme is to commence; and
b. a qualification (at level 7 of at least 120 credits) in a relevant discipline area, with a B grade average or better, and a minimum of two years' appropriate work experience; and
c. provided sufficient evidence of aptitude or appropriate work or other life experience that would indicate a successful outcome in the qualification
Applicants must have achieved a minimum standard of English as demonstrated by a minimum of 8 credits at NCEA Level 2 in English (4 in Reading, 4 in Writing). International applicants must also meet the English Language Entry Requirements stated in Unitec's Admission Requirements Policy.
Applicants must have an identified education-based practice that would normally be through current employment.
Applicants are also eligible for admission via transfer of credits from The Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Practice - Digital and Collaborative Learning (60 credits, level 8).
All applicants must give their consent to undergo a process of Safety Checking as set out in the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children's Workers) Regulations 2015 ("the Regulations").

The Master of Contemporary Education (Level 9) aims to equip teachers and educational professionals with the competence, expertise, knowledge to drive and lead excellence in contemporary, future-focused and culturally responsive education practice. The qualification aims to build on and deepen capacity for and commitment to emerging technologies and digital fluencies within the education sector, in the bicultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand
