What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the electrotechnology industry with competent practitioners who are able to work safely and autonomously with explosion-protected equipment in explosive atmospheres.

This qualification is suitable for people who intend to work with explosion-protected electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

It is recommended that trainees have achieved the National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) (Level 2) [Ref: 0973] in Mathematics, English, and Physics or General Science, or equivalent qualifications before starting the qualification. Trainees intending to undertake study towards the Explosion-Protected Electrical Equipment Installation optional strand should hold an appropriate current practising licence as issued by the Electrical Workers Registration Board. Trainees intending to undertake study towards the Explosion-Protected Electricalm Equipment Inspection optional strand should have completed the Explosion-Protected Electrical Equipment Installation optional strand of this programme and hold a current electrical inspector practising licence as issued by the Electrical Workers Registration Board. ICE may enrol trainees working in New Zealand under work visas into this programme without being a signatory to The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, until 31 December 2023.
