People intending to enter this qualification must hold at least a Class 1 full driver's licence.

About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification provides the heavy haulage industry with individuals who have the knowledge and skills required to safely and competently pilot trips involving specialist heavy haulage combination vehicles with overdimension and overweight loads requiring a Class 1 certified pilot.

This qualification is designed for individuals who are already working within the heavy haulage industry and who may already be certified as a Class 2 pilot.

Graduates will be able to work independently.

The award of this qualification may be used as evidence to support an application to the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) to become a Class 1 certified pilot.

This qualification does not permit the holder to drive a motor vehicle on New Zealand roads without a current relevant driver licence issued by the NZTA.
