What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is for people who wish to work with whānau in the development of a whānau-centred approach that supports whānau well-being.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide graduates with in-depth knowledge, skills and experiences in mātauranga Māori wellbeing approaches for Whānau Ora contexts.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to independently apply knowledge of Māori philosophies and theories of Māori wellbeing across a range of whānau ora contexts.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

To gain entry to the New Zealand Diploma in Whanau Ora (Level 5) programme, applicants must be: 17 years of age or over; New Zealand citizens, permanent residents or have the requisite visa for study purposes; and Able to demonstrate adequate literacy and/or numeracy skills to enable them to meet all academic and health and safety requirements of the programme/course on which they enrol. For domestic applicants under 20 years old: University Entrance/NCEA credits as per NZQA requirements; or Evidence of ability to complete the academic requirements for the programme. For applicants 20 years old and over: Demonstrated academic ability (at NZQA Level 4 or equivalent) to undertake the New Zealand Diploma in Whanau Ora (Level 5) programme and have the ability to succeed through personal attributes, work and life experience. English language requirements for this programme will be in accordance with the criteria specified in the Waiariki Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Regulatory Framework (Academic Regulations).
