What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the maritime industry with people who have the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain engine room and auxiliary equipment to Marine Engineer Class 3 (MEC3) or Class 4 (MEC4) standards under the Maritime NZ Seafarer Certification and Operational Limits Framework. The officer in charge of the watch will be expected to operate unsupervised for extended periods in sole charge of complex and unpredictable vessel operations.
The qualification is for marine engineers intending to progress to more senior roles or move to larger vessels but is also open to new entrants to the industry.
