About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is intended for whānau, hapū and others who work in the area of resource management, specifically in the protection and management of wāhi tapu, wāhi tūpuna, heritage and sites of significance; and are seeking a formal qualification to work independently at an intermediate level.
The purpose of the qualification is to provide whānau, hapū, iwi, hapori and other entities with graduates who are capable to fulfil kaupapa Māori based advocacy roles and activities at an intermediate level. Te iwi Māori and Aotearoa will benefit from having graduates who are able to provide, from a te ao Māori perspective, the skills and knowledge to protect and manage Māori heritage and sites of significance to Māori (cultural, physical and spiritual) for the benefit of current and future generations.
Graduates of this qualification will have an understanding of a system and framework to use in protecting Māori heritage and sites of significance, and will be able to use their skills and knowledge based on whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, te pono me te tika, tūrangawaewae, pūkengatanga and rangatiratanga to independently apply the processes available for their protection and management.
