About our job information

Pay information

We provide pay information as a guide for people considering entering or training for a job, not for employers or contractors to use to set pay rates.

People's individual pay rates may vary according to their skills, experience, qualifications and employer.

Salary pay rates are rounded up or down to the nearest $1,000. Hourly pay rates are rounded up or down to the nearest dollar. This includes minimum wage rates.

Sources we use may include:

  • published data on pay rates, such as multi-employer collective agreements
  • Statistics New Zealand’s population Census data
  • minimum pay rates published by Employment New Zealand
  • surveys carried out within occupations or by recruitment firms
  • pay information in job advertisements on job vacancy websites
  • interviews with people involved with training, industry bodies and employers.

Pay ranges based on Census information usually use the lower and upper quartile earnings for the occupation.

Job opportunities information

The job opportunities gauge shows our estimate of the demand for staff in a particular occupation, as at the last updated date (indicated by the information in the job opportunities sources section).

We consider:

  • whether job numbers are growing or shrinking
  • how much staff turnover there is in an occupation
  • whether the occupation is on a skills shortage list
  • how the supply of graduates or trainees compares with the demand for workers
  • our research, including interviews with people involved with training, industry bodies and employers.

Although we make every effort to ensure all material on our website is reliable and accurate at the time of publishing, we cannot accept any liability for its accuracy or content. Use of our website is at your own risk.

Information from external data feeds

Some data appearing on this website comes via direct feeds from various external agencies. We bear no responsibility for the accuracy of this information.

This data includes:

  • course information from New Zealand Qualifications Authority and Tertiary Education Commission
  • graduate earnings information from the Tertiary Education Commission
  • scholarships information from Generosity New Zealand.
